Are you getting the smooth and silky skin you're after from shaving? Or are you getting some swelling, redness and bloody bumps?
What are you using for shaving? If you're like most, you're using a wet razor. But that's okay. It might not be the tool you're using but the techniques you're NOT using that are causing such unpleasant results from shaving.
Did you know that most people don't think to make sure their razor/blade is new before they begin shaving?
A dull blade is a major cause of skin irritations when shaving.
See, the basic idea behind shaving with a razor is that the blade kind of pulls the hair up and, when sharp, cuts each hair cleanly and closely just above the skin. And then the hair goes back under the skin. That's what gives you that smooth feel.
Now - Picture in your mind, a blade of grass that has been mowed with a lawn mower that has dull blades. You know, when you can actually see that the blade of grass has a jagged tip, as if it's been torn, not cut.
Now - Picture in your mind, a lawn full of these jagged tipped blades of grass. Not a very pretty sight, right?
Okay, now - Imagine that the lawn is the area you've just shaved with a dull blade. Because, under magnification, each of your hairs looks just like those blades of grass with jagged tips after shaving.
You're probably thinking that's no biggie because no one can see these jagged hair tips without a magnifying glass ...
But - That's not the worst of it -
If you recall, the last line of the description of shaving with a razor reads, "And then the hair goes back under the skin".
Okay - So now you've got these jagged hair tips going back under your skin. What do you think will happen?
If you thought, "The worst", you'd be right.
But it's not always all that bad. If you're fortunate, you'll only experience some swelling, redness, maybe even a few bleeding bumps after shaving.
If you're not so fortunate, you'll have some pretty "angry" bumps created by those jagged tips of hair struggling to find their way up and out of the skin surface.
So as you can see now, shaving with a dull blade is a number one sin.
There is a way to avoid these problems from shaving with a wet razor, by using better tools designed for the purpose.
