Number One Shaving Tip

Regardless when you start shaving or what part of the body you're shaving, hopefully somebody has passed along the number one shaving tip to help you.

What is the number one shaving tip you may ask - The number one shaving tip is to ALWAYS shave with a fresh blade/razor.

Now this shaving tip may seem really simple, and it is, but it still needs to be said because you'd probably be surprised just how many people run into major skin irritations after shaving because they haven't followed this one shaving tip.

Here's why -

When you're shaving with a wet razor, the blade basically pulls the hair up from the hair follicle and slices across each hair. You've seen the TV commercials, right?

If you are following the number one shaving tip and shaving with the sharpest blade, the razor cuts each hair cleanly and closely just above the skin and you get a smooth shave.

If you're not following the number one shaving tip and shaving with a dull blade, the razor doesn't cut cleanly. In fact, even though the naked eye can't see it, the razor pulls and then just tears each hair.

This puts a lot of stress on each of the hair follicles, which means you're irritating them right away.

Now, when you were watching those TV commercials that showed the blade cutting the hairs, did you happen to notice what happened to the hairs after they were cut? The hair goes back under the skin.

If you are following the number one shaving tip and shaving with the sharpest blade, this is no problem. The hair just goes back under the skin and then just grows back out.

But - If you're not following the number one shaving tip and shaving with a dull blade, which we've already established pulls and then just tears each hair, these torn hairs go back under the skin.

And what do you think happens then?

Let's look at it this way - You've got a round hole, the skin pore, and a round pole, the hair shaft.

Which means there's a nice, clean tip at the top of the hair shaft when it goes back under the skin. Which means this round pole should have no trouble growing back out of the round skin pore hole.

Now, if you're not following the number one shaving tip and shaving with a dull blade, the razor just tears each hair. Which means there's this ragged, jagged tip at the top of the hair shaft when it goes back under the skin. Which means this pole is no longer round and will have trouble trying to grow back out of the round skin pore hole.

Maybe you never stopped to really picture shaving in this way. Or why the number one shaving tip of always shaving with the sharpest blade is so important to the health of your skin as well as to the results you get from shaving.

Maybe next time you start to grab someone else's razor or don't think it's important to take the time to put a fresh, clean and sharp blade in your razor, you'll remember this number one shaving tip.
