Shave Your Chest With Ease and Safety

If you shave your chest with a wet razor, the sharp blade can cause major skin irritations, until you know how to shave with one.

To avoid cutting yourself, missing hairs or causing razor burns, shave slowly with a wet razor as you shave your chest.

Every males' chest hair grows at different rates. And while it's not true that if you shave your chest, it will cause your hair to grow back in coarser, the stubble can be rough. Expect to shave your chest every one to four days.

It's not a good idea to shave your chest when you first get up after sleeping. Body fluids have made the skin puffy, which makes it harder for the razor to get close to the hair follicle. If you allow about twenty to thirty minutes, your skin will become more taut and the hair shaft more exposed, which will make it easier to shave your chest.

If your hair is somewhat long, trim it down before you shave your chest. You can use scissors, but a hair trimmer works better.

Before you shave your chest, always thoroughly moisturize your hair and skin. Take a shower first or better yet, shave your chest in the shower if you can. The steam will open the pores and relax the skin. And wet hairs are much easier to shave, which reduces wear on your skin and the blade. It's best if your skin can be wet for five to ten minutes before you shave your chest.

Apply whatever lubricant you prefer to further soften your hair, lock in moisture, help keep the hair erect, reduce friction and condition the skin. Use a rich lubricant that doesn't contain chemicals to irritate the skin and helps the razor glide easily across the skin as you shave your chest.

ALWAYS use a fresh blade when you shave your chest. And because the chest is such a large area to shave, have more clean blades where you can get at them easily when you need a change.

Once your skin and hair is fully moisturized, gently pull the skin taut with one hand and draw the razor across your skin with the other in long strokes. You don't need to apply much pressure.

Shave your chest hairs down, then upward.

You may discover that you have hair right at the edge of your nipples. Take care around this area not to nick yourself.

Make sure there's always plenty of lubricant as you shave your chest. Don't shave over the same area repeatedly. And if your razor starts dragging, it's time for a new blade.

After you shave your chest, thoroughly rinse with warm water. Then, rinse with cold water. Rub your chest with an ice cube if you think you can stand it. This helps close the pores and calm and tone the skin.

Pat your chest dry, making sure not to rub.

Applying witch hazel, after shave or another alcohol based product works well to further close the pores and also act as an astringent to kill any bacteria after you shave your chest. But be aware that alcohol dries out the skin and this could cause irritation. To kill bacteria and prevent infection, Tea Tree oil is a popular all natural remedy.

To help keep the skin from becoming inflamed after you shave your chest, many males find a light dusting of talc free powder or corn starch works well.

Another key to avoiding skin irritations is to limit friction. Wear loose fitting clothing especially right after you shave chest.
