Removing pubic hair really is a good thing, if you know how to go about it properly, to get the smooth results you're after, instead of unsightly skin irritations.

Whether you're removing pubic hair at home with a wet razor or a waxing kit, or having your pubic hair removed by someone else with waxing, electrolysis or laser treatments, there is always going to be some irritation, but if you take heed of the few following before and after rules, you can at least limit the severity and longevity of any irritation.

Removing pubic hair really needs to be done as late in the day as possible. Partly because your skin needs to be taut and hairs fully exposed, which they're not after sleeping, when body fluids have puffed up the skin. But mostly because you want to be able to do without any restrictive clothing after removing pubic hair. This will eliminate friction which is a major cause of skin irritations. This is both a before and after rule rolled into one.

Before shaving with a wet razor as your chosen means of removing pubic hair, trim down long hairs to a stubble to save wear and tear on your razor's blade and make it easier to exfoliate this area as well as see where you're shaving better.

Before waxing as your chosen form for removing pubic hair, your hair needs to be at least an 1/8th of an inch long, so the wax can adhere to it well before it's pulled.

Before removing pubic hair by electrolysis or laser treatments, the length of hair doesn't really matter because both of these methods focus on the follicles, (the skin depression from which the hair grows), below the skin.

Before removing pubic hair, exfoliate your skin. Basically what this means is that you need to rid the surface of your skin of dead skin cells. If these dead skin cells are left on your skin, they will enter into the hair follicles and irritate them.

Scrubbing with a wet washcloth will work for shaving with a wet razor, but not for any of the other processes for removing pubic hair because the skin and hair needs to be dry. For these methods, simply rubbing your skin with a dry loofah sponge will work well.

After removing pubic hair by shaving with a wet razor or waxing, your skin needs to be rinsed well with warm water to remove any traces of lubricant and waxing solution.

After removing pubic hair by all of these methods, your entire pubic area needs to be flushed with cold-as-you-can-stand-it water to soothe agitated follicles and generally tone the skin. Some people are able to handle the rubbing of an ice cube on this area, which really does work well.

After removing pubic hair by all of these processes, it's important to keep this naturally moist area dry. Dusting lightly with a talc free powder or just plain cornstarch will work.

And getting back to the very first rule, limiting friction by wearing loose fitting clothing or nothing at all will go a long way in preventing skin irritations after removing pubic hair.

Okay - So now hopefully you can see how if you take heed of these few before and after rules, you can at least limit the severity and longevity of any irritation after removing pubic hair.
