If you're seriously considering a head shave, or even if you already shave your head, here are some shaving basics you should know.

First, cut and then trim your hair to a short stubble before you begin your head shave.

Next, take a long, hot shower. The steam will relax the scalp and soften the hairs, which will make your head shave easier. Allow your scalp and stubble to be wet for 5 - 10 minutes.

Then, apply a lubricant and allow it to sit on your scalp for several minutes. Make sure this lubricant is chemical free. If the ingredients contain words you can't pronounce - Don't use it. This is one way to avoid skin irritations right from the start of your head shave.

Many people prefer a little natural Tea Tree or mineral oil. These oils will help condition the skin and make the razor glide more easily during your head shave, which will help prevent scrapes, nicks and cuts.

ALWAYS use a fresh, new blade/razor whenever you head shave. And if your razor starts to feel like it's dragging, put in a new blade.

Since you can't see the back of your head to shave it, use a mirror. Also, regularly use your fingers to feel for areas you've missed. You don't want to end up looking patchy.

The direction of how to head shave doesn't matter because the hair grows in different directions. Whatever works for you.

Don't apply too much pressure or repeat strokes in the same area as you head shave because both of these things will irritate your scalp.

Once you're finished with your head shave -

Thoroughly wash your scalp with warm water to remove any remaining lubricant.

Then, if you think you can handle it, rub your scalp with an ice cube. Or at least rinse it with cold water. Doing so will close the pores and calm and tone your scalp.

Making sure not to rub, pat your scalp dry with a clean soft towel.

Despite what you may believe, it's not a good idea to apply an alcohol based product after you head shave because alcohol dries out the skin and dry skin contributes to skin irritations.

You might start thinking this is an ad, but it's not - Tea Tree oil works great for after your head shave as well. As mentioned earlier, it thoroughly conditions your scalp, but it also destroys bacteria after shaving.

People always notice a head shave, and Tea Tree oil will give you that healthy looking, smooth and shiny scalp long after you head shave.

Many people find a head shave very sexy. And if you didn't know, the entire scalp is an erogenous zone after shaving ... IF - And yes, it's a big if - a head shave is done properly.

Find out what a real veteran like Darrell Kenston from Eerie, Pennsylvania knows about a good and proper head shave without all the hassle and aggravation other forms of hair removal inevitably cause on this area of the body and how he beats the system time after time.
